Winter onslaught...

And so it begins?

Not that I need more games to play as I'm trying to juggle Gears/Forza/Rayman/Halo CE now but... I saw in the BB ad today that Soul Calibur V is coming out and I figured we must be approaching that time when the winter games come out.  I haven't really been paying much attention to the release dates but I did note that a lot of games are on sale now... looked like the other day, I saw BF3, AC:R, Arkham City all on sale for $40.  This week, the EA sports titles (FIFA!) are $40.  Pondering my options...

I would really like to get the new Tiger Woods (not sure of the release date) and I feel almost bad that I missed last year's introduction of Augusta.  But EA screwed themselves so bad with their DLC model that I refused to purchase what otherwise would have been a day one for me.  Not sure if the same is true this year or not... I'd say I'd even have a preference of that over FIFA at this point.  We'll see...

Any upcoming purchases for anyone?

Kingdoms of Amalur.

Other than that I think I am pretty well set for awhile. I still have FIFA and Forza both of which I have hardly touched.

I haven't delved much into AC:R MP because of Gears taking most of my time.

Isn't Mass Effect 3 due out in March? I know there are several Papagama's eagerly awaiting that game, although I am not one of them. I tried both 1&2 and just couldn't get into them for some reason.

I will pick up Arkham City at some point just don't know when. There are also a few arcade titles coming out soon that I am interested in.

Now that I have my IPONG robot I am just waiting on my gross of ping-pong balls to arrive and I will be table tennis crazy, taking more time away from video gaming.

SSX is the only day one I'm anticipating.

1/31 SoulCalibur V

2/7 Kingdoms of Amalur

2/14-2/22 Vita

2/14 Grand Slam Tennis 2 (don't really know much about this title... saw it was an EA Sports one though)

2/28 SSX

3/6 ME3

3/20 Ninja Gaiden 3

3/20 Kinect Rush: A Disney-Pixar Adventure

3/20 RE: Operation Raccoon City

3/27 TW PGA Tour 13

It looks like there are a lot of flying games out or coming out too.  There were others that were of mild interest... the baseball(s), Syndicate, Wrath of Asura.

I'm still trying to catch up on last year's game deluge. I wrapped up Batman Arkham City (impressions coming soon) and am now working my way through Saints Row The Third. Backlog is still pretty extensive right now, but there are a few upcoming releases I've got my eyes on.

For one, I've got my Vita pre-ordered (and paid for) already. I had a bunch of games for the system pre-ordered but I've chopped the list down to just Uncharted & Hot Shots Golf

I'm very interested in SSX, but I'm just not sure if I can swing that at launch especially with Mass Effect 3 coming out the week after (have the LE edition of that pre-ordered).

Later in March is Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City which I have a mild interest in. I believe it is primarily multiplayer, which means if there is no PapaGama buy in, it'll probably be DOA for me (like Left 4 Dead you fools!)

There is also a Resident Evil game coming out for the 3DS which I'm eager to check out, but will wait for a sale.

Still have the shrink wrap on Assassins Creed: Revelations - so that'll no doubt keep me busy until these new titles drop in price a bit or I can clear out more of my backlog.

I'm pretty set for awhile too.  I haven't been playing as much at night since some nights Chase sleeps well and some he doesn't.  I can see myself sinking a lot of time into Saints Row.  Game is ridiculous fun.  Still need to finish AC:R, Uncharted 3.

I was surprised when I saw LBP was not a launch title... and I thought I read somewhere that Mod Nation Racers had no online.  Weird.  I would be on Uncharted and HSG though I would feel a bit sheepish trying to explain why I needed a new console for a game that maybe won't change that much between the previous iteration.  The thing was, HSG was actually something Karla played for a bit on the old PSP fat.

There is a post over on the Playstation blog that details ModNation's on-line comonents http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/01/23/online-features-in-modnation-racers-road-trip-for-ps-vita/

Bizzarely missing from the list is actual on-line play.

What the game does include is:

Leaderboards

'Match-making' Ghosts & Time Trials

'Travel Points' - awards you points for when you check in. The further from home you go, the more points

Global travel points - community unlocks based on point milestones

plus some other nonsense. The last paragraph of the post attempts to explain why there is no head to head (aside from ad-hoc)

I know there are some of you that are disappointed that ModNation Racers: Road Trip doesn’t let you play head-to-head online other than ad-hoc. But we really wanted to evolve online functionality and take advantage of the PlayStation Vita’s unique feature set in new ways. If all we ever did as developers is rehash features that have been done in previous games, we’d still be entering passwords instead of using save files and you’d have to start the entire game over after you lost your three lives (extra 1-ups aside).

While online head-to-head has been a mode used in many games in recent years, we focused on making a game that is crafted for how portable games are most often played—in quicker “pick up and play” sessions multiple times in a day. Your online interaction, competition and socialization will always be when it’s convenient for you. I hope that all of you are as interested to check-out the robust online features that ModNation Racers: Road Trip has as we are to see you enjoy them!

I was pretty dissapointed myself, but this explanation does make some sense. I tend to play my portable games solo, yet that all goes out the window when it comes to racers.

I canceled my pre-order, but I might still pick this up at some point.

BB was showing MW3 for $40 and Rayman for $30. Rayman was very, very good.
